Julia Sowden and Maria Daines are founders of One Life Rescue based in South East Cambridgeshire and North West Essex, UK.
One Life Rescue was founded to help unwanted dogs in crisis and emergency situations find new, loving homes.
Please note we do not take dogs from the general public. We are a last hope rescue working on a shoestring budget and raising funds through local events. Fund raising enables us to give individual attention to each dog, covering the cost of veterinary treatment, food, kennel fees, vaccinations, spay and neuter and all costs incurred through rehoming unwanted dogs.
When a dog comes into our care it will receive medical treatment and be spayed/neutered and vaccinated if necessary. Each will be assessed for temperament and socialisation. Our aim is to save unwanted dogs who have been abandoned or neglected and whenever possible we will find dogs a suitable forever home with a caring and responsible family.
Our friends, supporters and volunteers will help us to save as many dogs as possible and especially those currently on 'borrowed time' waiting for rescue on death row in council pounds in the United Kingdom.
Julia Sowden has twelve years experience in animal rescue and rehoming, predominantly with the highly successful branch of Cats Protection in Croydon and following relocation to North Essex she became branch Co-ordinator and Welfare Officer with Haverhill Cats Protection. Julia is experienced in fostering, home checking, feral work and microchipping. Recently Julia organised a musical benefit for Doris Banham Dog Sanctuary, which raised £1279.00 to help Doris Banham volunteers rescue dogs from UK council pounds.
Maria Daines is an animal advocate, Patron of Dog Watch UK - The Staffy Campaign and also Patron of Cornwall's Voice For Animals, Doris Banham Sanctuary and Honorary Member of Skiathos Cat Society. Maria has experience in home checking and fostering and she is a member of Animals Count, a political party which aims to take animal issues to the top of the political agenda through setting the best policies for animals and encouraging existing political parties to become more animal friendly.
Juila is a musician in the Apache John band and Maria is frontwoman and songwriter with the Maria Daines Band.
